Transparent Sustainability: WISA XS and XT with Validated EPDs

Sustainability in construction requires more than ambitions and good intentions. Increasingly, the focus is on measurable performance and transparent data. Designers, installers, consultants and project owners want to know: what is the actual environmental impact of a product?

For this reason, since the end of 2025 the WISA XS and XT concealed cisterns have been provided with validated Environmental Product Declarations (EPDs) within The International EPD System.

What exactly is an EPD?

An Environmental Product Declaration (EPD) is an independently verified document that provides insight into the environmental impact of a product throughout its entire life cycle. This includes raw material extraction, production, transport and end-of-life.

EPDs are developed according to international standards (ISO 14025 and EN 15804+A2) and make it possible to objectively compare products, provided they fall within the same product category and scope.

For the construction sector, EPDs are an important tool for:

• MPG calculations

• BREEAM and LEED certification processes

• sustainable project selection

• transparent procurement procedures

WISA XS and XT: demonstrably low CO₂ impact

Within the EPD, the cradle-to-gate CO₂ impact (A1–A3) was analyzed. This refers to emissions generated during raw material extraction, transport and production.

The results show that the WISA XS and XT belong to the best performing solutions within their product category. On average, the XS and XT concealed cisterns show a CO₂ impact approximately 14% lower than what is reported in publicly available EPDs for comparable premium concealed systems.

The WISA XT, in particular, demonstrates a notably strong performance within the segment of high-quality installation frames.

In practical terms, this means lower CO₂ emissions per installation, without compromising quality or functionality.

WISA is part of Fluidmaster, an international manufacturer of sanitary solutions. The WISA XS and XT concealed cisterns are produced in the Fluidmaster factory in Turkey, where other sanitary components of the group are also manufactured.

Within this production environment, comparable products are manufactured according to fixed processes and quality standards. This enables a consistent and reliable assessment of environmental performance.

The EPDs are therefore not standalone documents, but the result of a structured and measurable approach.

Sustainability goes beyond the cistern

Not only the concealed cisterns are provided with EPDs. The WISA HVK and 747 fill valves also have a validated Environmental Product Declaration.

This makes the environmental impact of both the cistern and the associated flushing technology transparent. It aligns with the growing demand for system thinking within sustainable construction projects.
